February 22, 2010 Naperville, IL – Nicor Gas announced the opening of its new facility in Des Plaines and will mark the event with an open house on Tuesday, February 23rd at 9 am. The facility is located at 1665 Birchwood in Des Plaines and houses staff from field operations, construction and maintenance, and meter reading.
“After breaking ground less than one year ago, we are very proud to celebrate the opening of our new regional facility in Des Plaines,” said Rocco D’Alessandro, Executive Vice President Operations for Nicor Gas. “The Des Plaines facility will allow for greater operational efficiencies by having our workforce operate from a more central location. Our facility was also designed with the environment in mind, allowing Nicor Gas through its building practices to apply for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.” The Des Plaines regional facility provides a number of enhanced benefits for managing field and system operations as it is strategically located to service current and future population growth. The facility is approximately five acres and the building is 31,000 square feet to accommodate office space, vehicles, and storage. In designing and constructing this facility, Nicor Gas seeks Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. LEED is an internationally recognized certification system that measures how well a building performs across all the metrics that matter most: energy savings, water efficiency, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.
“Des Plaines is proud to have Nicor Gas in the City of Des Plaines. We believe this facility is an excellent addition to our community. Nicor Gas has a long history with our City, having been a founding member of the Des Plaines Chamber of Commerce & Industry. Nicor’s Chamber membership dates back to 1934 when they were part of the Public Service Company of Northern Illinois. We look forward to working with them for many years to come,” said Martin J. Moylan, Mayor of Des Plaines.
“I am very pleased that Nicor Gas chose the 6th Ward to build their new regional facility. It is equally gratifying to know that the company seeks LEED Certification for this new facility, proving that the company is environmentally responsible and cares about the community,” said Mark Walsten, 6th Ward Alderman, City of Des Plaines.
