Naperville, IL – Nicor Gas wants customers to know that summer has officially begun, and with many customers making home improvements, this is the time to begin implementing money saving measures and install energy efficient home equipment before the fall season and colder temperatures quickly arrive. Nicor Gas' Energy Efficiency Program (EEP) has already started and is offering rebates, ideas, and tools to help residential and business customers use energy wisely. Rebates for furnaces, boilers, and water heaters range from $50-$400 plus you may be eligible for federal tax incentives.
"The Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Program provides rebate incentives to residential and commercial customers who choose to purchase efficient natural gas equipment," said Jim Jerozal, General Manager of Energy Efficiency for Nicor Gas. "Another positive aspect of this new program is that when customers purchase qualifying energy saving equipment, their homes or businesses can become more environmentally friendly due to the reduction in energy consumption."
Right now may be the best time for customers to make energy cost decisions and home improvements. While winter temperatures typically place upward pressure on natural gas prices, summer is no exception. According to the latest report by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), temperatures across much of the country soared as summer officially began, boosting natural gas demand by 12-percent for electric power generation while natural gas inventories fell below last year's level for the first time since April.
Nicor Gas has filed a July gas supply charge (GSC) of $.51 per therm with the Illinois Commerce Commission, up 7 cents compared to June. Nicor Gas makes no profit on the cost of natural gas as the cost the company pays for natural gas is passed through to customers with no mark-up.
