What We Believe
At Nicor, we recognize the need to provide our employees with rewarding work and the tools they need to do their jobs effectively. To contribute to their overall well-being, we embrace a values and ethics system that sets forth the behavior we expect from employees and the behavior they should expect from the company.
Our Values
- We deliver the best, most cost-effective service to our customers.
- We treat our customers with the same dignity and respect that we expect from one another.
- We take personal responsibility for what we do, recognizing that our individual efforts have an impact on our company's success.
- We strive to treat each other fairly and be responsive to each other's needs.
- We are committed to working together to achieve shared goals.
Our Code of Ethics
We believe each and every employee must take personal responsibility for building a culture where people are grounded in respect for others and in doing what's right. Nicor's Ethics Program helps employees live up to this ethical responsibility by offering clear guidelines on what is expected and valuable resources where we can get answers to our ethical questions and resolution to our concerns. In addition to the guidelines set forth in our Code of Ethics, many tools are available for employees who wish to seek guidance on an ethics issue.

Nicor's annual Volunteer Day is a chance for employees to give back to the communities where they live and work. |
Our Commitment to the Community
As a company, we are strongly committed to giving back to the communities we serve, and Nicor employees exemplify the spirit of philanthropy in a number of ways. For example:
- Nearly 1,000 Nicor employees, family and friends volunteered in 21 communities for the 14th annual Volunteer Day in 2010. Projects ranged from sorting food at local pantries to cleaning yards and providing energy efficiency improvements to senior citizens' homes.
- Every spring, employees lace up their walking shoes in support of March of Dimes' WalkAmerica. In 2008, more than 360 Nicor employees, family members and friends raised more than $102,000 (including the company match) in donations to help save babies. Nicor ranked #5 in the state of Illinois for 2008 fundraising.
- Nicor employees lend their support to our annual United Way campaign, which has raised an average of $1 million for the past 15 years, benefitting more than 12,000 agencies.
