Nicor Gas sets out to collect 1,000 pounds of food to support local food pantries during the holidays

NAPERVILLE, IL – Nov. 15, 2013 – Beginning Monday, Nov.18, Nicor Gas employees will collect canned and nonperishable goods to support 10 local food pantries during the holiday season. The food drive runs through Dec. 16, and the company’s employees seek to collect approximately 1,000 pounds of food.
“One of our core corporate values is Generosity of Spirit, which encourages employees to give back to the communities we serve. We know that many families depend on local food banks for assistance, especially during the holidays,” said Beth Reese, president of Nicor Gas. “Hosting an employee-sponsored food drive is an opportunity for us to demonstrate our values by supporting the organizations that do so much to help needy families throughout northern Illinois.”
Nicor Gas also awarded community enrichment grants, totaling $50,000 to the 10 food pantries to support their continuing efforts to stamp out hunger. The organizations are Northern Illinois Food Bank (Park City), Loaves & Fishes Community Pantry (Naperville), Kendall County Food Pantry (Yorkville), Midwest Food Bank (Bloomington), West Suburban Community Pantry (Woodbridge), Respond Now (Chicago Heights), Kankakee County Community Services, Inc. (Kankakee), Shepherd’s Pantry (Carthage), MorningStar Mission (Joliet) and Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry (Aurora).
