Nicor Gas Donates More Than $130,000 to Local Energy Assistance Agencies and Food Pantries

December 18, 2013

NAPERVILLE, IL – Dec. 18, 2013 – Giving back to the communities it serves is a year-round commitment for Nicor Gas, and this year the holiday season will be a little brighter for northern Illinois residents thanks to the company’s recent donations to 29 agencies and food pantries in the area.

The grants include $80,500 for 19 nonprofit organizations and Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) intake agencies and $50,000 in funding for 10 local food pantries. “Nicor Gas has been part of the fabric of this region for more than 150 years, and we are dedicated to the well-being of the communities we serve. We recognize that many Illinois families are facing economic challenges so we are pleased to fund programs that help provide additional relief during the holiday season,” said Beth Reese, president of Nicor Gas.

Nicor Gas also sponsored food drives at several of its facilities, and employees collected more than 1,000 pounds of food to donate to local food banks.

“We believe it is not only our duty – but a privilege – to help those most in need, and that is why we have partnered with several local organizations that work tirelessly to help the communities in our region,” Reese said.

The organizations benefiting from the Nicor Gas grants and food drives are Community and Economic Development Association of Cook County (Chicago); Community Contacts (Elgin); Will County Center for Community Concerns (Joliet); Tri-County Opportunities Council (Rock Falls); Mid-Central Community Action (Bloomington); Community Action Partnership of Lake County (Waukegan); Kankakee County Community Services (Kankakee), Northwestern Illinois Community Action Agency (Freeport); East Central Illinois Community Action Agency (Danville); Western Illinois Regional Council (Macomb); Two Rivers Regional Council of Public Officials (Rushville); Tazwood Community Services (Morton); Project NOW (Rock Island); Community Action Partnership of Central Illinois (Lincoln); Arab American Family Services (Bridgeview); Proviso-Leyden Council for Community Action (Maywood); Naperville Cares (Naperville); Respond Now (Chicago Heights); and Ford Heights Community Service Organization (Ford Heights).
