Nicor Gas: Winter Heating Bills Drop by 20 Percent
NAPERVILLE, IL – April 24, 2015 – Nicor Gas today announced that Nicor Gas customers spent less money to heat their homes this winter. The average residential winter bills from November 2014 through March 2015 totaled $521, a 20 percent decrease from the $648 total the previous year.
The 20 percent decrease in the average residential customer bill was a result of lower gas costs and reduced usage due to milder temperatures.
The weighted average Gas Supply Cost (GSC) during November 2014 through March 2015 was $0.42, a decrease from the previous year time period GSC of $0.49. The average residential usage also decreased over the same time period from 1,008 therms per residential customer to 909 therms per residential customer. The GSC reflects the cost of natural gas supplies the company purchases on behalf of customers and passes along without any markup.
Nicor Gas would like to remind customers that although the cold weather season has come to an end, they can still reap the benefits of participating in the energySMART Program. energySMART helps customers manage their energy costs by lowering out-of-pocket expenses for energy efficiency improvements and energy consumption. This allows customers to gain more control on how much natural gas they use and consequently save on energy costs. In addition to cash rebates up to $1,200, the program allows eligible customers to finance the cost of energy-efficient equipment and improvements for their homes and conveniently apply those costs to their monthly Nicor Gas bills.
