Volunteer Day Projects to Energize Northern Illinois Communities
Nineteen service projects will take place Saturday, May 20

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – May 18, 2017 – More than 450 Nicor Gas and Pivotal Home Solutions employees, their families and friends will volunteer in their local communities Saturday, May 20, doing everything from building a sustainable garden at a homeless shelter for veterans in Wheaton to stocking shelves at a food pantry in Rockford.

The 21st annual Volunteer Day consists of 19 service projects in northern Illinois communities. Volunteers will partner with community action agencies and nonprofit organizations to contribute 1,700 manpower hours in just one day. Since 1996, this event has occurred on the third Saturday of May and is one of the largest single-day corporate volunteer initiatives benefiting communities served by Nicor Gas.

“Volunteer Day is one of the traditions we are most proud of at Nicor Gas,” said company president Melvin D. Williams. “To truly understand what it means to be citizens wherever we serve, you have to see all of our volunteers working shoulder to shoulder with our community partners. We like to say we are bigger than our bottom line; Volunteer Day is putting those words into action.”
