How to get help

There are a number of grants available to help you pay your bill. Each program has individual requirements, so if you don’t qualify for one, you may qualify for another. To get help navigating your options, call us, or speak with the agency directly by calling the contact number listed below.

Information Needed to Apply
for Assistance

A valid driver’s license

A copy of your current lease/proof of residence

Proof of 30-day income from all household members.

A copy of your current gas bill (and electric bill)

If a member of your household receives TANF, you must bring their Medical Eligibility Card.

Social Security card/numbers for all household members (Hard-copy Social Security cards, print-out from the Social Security Administration)

Applicants that have their utilities included in the rent must bring proof of rental agreement stating monthly rental amount, that utilities are included, and landlord contract information. (Rent costs must be greater than 30% of current household 30-day income)

Energy Assistance Program

Nicor Gas Sharing Program is funded through direct contributions from Nicor Gas employees and customers to assist with account arrearages.

The Nicor Gas Energy Aide Program provides qualifying households with monetary relief for their natural gas bills.

Bill Assistance Program

A special bill payment assistance program from Nicor Gas for income-eligible residential customers impacted by COVID-19.

The LIHEAP grant provides qualifying households with monetary relief for energy bills. Customers can receive Reconnect Assistance in addition to their regular LIHEAP grant.

Applications for LIHEAP are currently closed, and will re-open in September 2021.

The PIPP program allows eligible customers to pay a percentage of their monthly income to maintain their utility service.
