Nicor Gas Foundation commits $100,000 in grants to advance social justice initiatives in South Holland

NAPERVILLE, IL – October 17, 2023 – Today, the Nicor Gas Foundation announced a commitment of $100,000 to the Safer Foundation in South Holland, Ill., supporting their mission of rehabilitating individuals with arrest and convictions records to become employed, law-abiding members of the community.

With support from the Nicor Gas Foundation, the nonprofit will be able to help approximately 125 recipients with re-entry training, as well as career development and job placement support.

“At Nicor Gas, we are committed to advancing social justice initiatives that directly support communities heavily impacted by disproportionate levels of poverty, educational deficits and crime,” said Meena Beyers, vice president of Business & Community Development at Nicor Gas. “We are proud to support organizations like the Safer Foundation that are ensuring individuals receive a second chance, while reaching financial stability to support themselves and their families.”

Since 1972, the Safer Foundation has been committed to paving the road for individuals re-entering society after incarceration with stabilizing support, employment, education and advocacy that empower justice-involved individuals to achieve their true potential.

Today, the nonprofit serves more than 5,300 clients annually. Headquartered in Chicago, the Safer Foundation is home to locations across the Chicagoland area and the Quad Cities.
