Fueling connectivity in rural Illinois

Nicor Gas is bringing natural gas service to emergency standby generators that provide critical power to JCE Co-op's expanding broadband network. The nonprofit utility distribution cooperative is deploying fiber-to-the-premise broadband service in rural areas of Northwest Illinois.

Fiber-to-the-premise internet transforms how rural residents live, work and learn – ensuring uninterrupted service is critical, especially during severe weather or crisis events. Thanks to Nicor Gas’ seamless installation of natural gas service at each fiber optic cabinet site, these generators help maintain broadband access when members need it most, keeping families safe, informed and connected.

“Working with a like-minded utility such as Nicor Gas, proved to be a well-executed and enjoyable process,” said Jesse Shekleton, director and general manager of broadband at JCE Co-op. “Together, we’re forging a more connected future for our rural communities.”

The collaboration of utility providers is one of the ways Nicor Gas is enabling energy solutions that drive economic development, support modern infrastructure and deliver long-term value to the people and places it serves.
