In the rolling fields of the Midwest, where agriculture fuels communities and sustains families, Nicor Gas and East Dubuque Nitrogen Fertilizers (EDNF), a CVR Company, share a vital mission – keeping America’s farms growing strong.
Every day, EDNF relies on a steady, uninterrupted supply of natural gas from Nicor Gas to produce essential fertilizers that nourish crops across the region. As the sole supplier of natural gas to the facility, Nicor Gas ensures that EDNF can operate around the clock, transforming natural gas into the nutrients that help feed America.
EDNF uses natural gas as feedstock to produce anhydrous ammonia, a key ingredient in fertilizer. Natural gas also supports other product lines and powers compressors that drive production forward. Without this dependable energy source, EDNF’s operations would come to a standstill, impacting farmers and communities within 150 miles who depend on their products.
Reliability is at the heart of this partnership. Nicor Gas works closely with EDNF to ensure any maintenance or upgrades – such as the planned tin whistle replacement on the supply line in summer 2026—are carefully timed to coincide with the plant’s scheduled maintenance shutdown. This collaboration minimizes disruption and keeps production running smoothly.
“Nicor Gas has been an exceptional partner—reliable, responsive and truly invested in our success. Their commitment to uninterrupted supply allows us to focus on what we do best: producing the fertilizers that keep our region’s farms thriving,” remarked Marc Gilbertson, vice president and general manager, East Dubuque Nitrogen Fertilizers.
Since 1965, EDNF has been a cornerstone of its community, employing 145 people and contributing to local prosperity through donations, volunteerism and environmental stewardship. The company operates responsibly, complying with all regulations and continually seeking ways to minimize environmental impact.
Together, Nicor Gas and EDNF are more than business partners – they are collaborators in powering progress. From the pipelines beneath the soil to the crops that sustain the nation, their shared commitment ensures that the heartland continues to thrive.
