Supporting Reliable Operations at Iron Oak Energy's Wedron Silica Facility

With more than 100 years of operating history, Iron Oak Energy's Wedron Silica facility in Wedron, Illinois, is a leading producer of high-quality silica sand used in oil and natural gas extraction, as well as specialty industrial applications. The facility serves customers throughout North America and is one of the few locations in the country where naturally occurring silica sand is completely round, making it ideal for customers requiring this unique specification.

The Nicor Gas team recently toured the Wedron Silica facility to gain a deeper understanding of its operations and learn more about the company's commitment to safety. During the visit, representatives from both organizations engaged in productive discussions focused on maintaining safe operating conditions and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.

The tour highlighted the critical role natural gas plays in Iron Oak Energy’s operations. Before entering the screening process, damp sand must be dried, and the facility relies on Nicor Gas to provide safe, reliable and affordable natural gas to support its drying and processing operations.
