The Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Program is recognizing Harper College for achieving more than 480,000 in annual therm savings through its Strategic Energy Management (SEM) offering—this is equivalent to the carbon captured by more than 2,500 acres of U.S. forests in one year. This significant energy-saving accomplishment demonstrates the community college’s proactive approach to making changes that will benefit the campus and community for years to come.
In 2019, Harper College, located in Palatine, Illinois, joined the Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Program to advance its commitment to energy efficiency. Nicor Gas helped the college identify and make several energy-saving improvements including the replacement of aged commercial steam traps and other equipment upgrades, as well as modifying energy usage behaviors.
“We commend Harper College for committing to make energy efficiency a priority for its campus operations,” said Mike King, director of Energy Efficiency Program Strategy and Solutions at Nicor Gas. “Applying practical energy-saving solutions and some simple changes can add up to impactful results and long-term savings.”
“Working with the Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Program supports our vision for a more sustainable campus,” said Dr. Avis Proctor, president of Harper College. “We are committed to enhancing energy efficiency while ensuring a comfortable learning and working environment for our students, employees and visitors. Our team values this collaboration with Nicor Gas and looks forward to exploring new opportunities to further reduce energy use and achieve additional savings.”
