Nicor Gas serves Cicero families alongside State Senator at Grocery and Energy Resource Fair

Nicor Gas and the Office of State Sen. Javier Cervantes provided more than 4,800 pounds of frozen food, dry goods and fresh produce to 235 Cicero-area families at a free grocery and energy resource fair at Morton College. Attendees also learned about natural gas safety, careers in energy, energy-saving tips and offerings and received on-site bill assistance as well as community resources from The Salvation Army, Illinois Tollway, the Office of State Sen. Javier Cervantes and Morton College.

In Illinois, nearly 1.5 million people live at or below the poverty level – that is more than 12% of the state's population. Many of these families struggle to receive and maintain the most basic of essentials, including heat in their homes in the winter, food, housing and medical assistance. At Nicor Gas, we are committed to serving our 2.3 million customers across more than 650 communities with the resources they need to thrive. This year, the company expects to provide nearly 4,500 families across its service territory with free food and access to basic need support at its produce stands and grocery resource fair events.
