Get Ready to Launch Your Career in Energy Efficiency!

New to the Energy Efficiency industry? Start here!

The Nicor Gas and Ameren Illinois Energy Efficiency Programs are offering a free full-time, nine-week hands-on training program in the Bloomington area.  This program introduces participants to the energy efficiency sector and connects them with employment opportunities through local trade allies, utilities, and other businesses. By the end of the program, graduates will be well-prepared for entry-level roles in the expanding energy efficiency field.

Training focuses on understanding how homes operate as integrated systems and equips participants to address both common and complex challenges using building science principles. Students will learn how to conduct home energy audits to begin developing strategies for improving home performance, along with gaining hands-on skills in HVAC and air-leakage mitigation.

The program is committed to supporting individualsfacing barriers to economic advancement, including those with no prior formal education or work experience in energy efficiency. To qualify, applicants must have:

  • A valid driver's license or active driver permit (If you have never had a license, reliable transportation is required)
  • Willingness to accept job placement in the industry
  • A high school diploma or GED
  • ·The ability to commit time to the program
  • Acceptance of a drug screening and motor vehicle record check (Program staff will assist with these checks after your application is submitted)

This initiative is more than just training—it’s about empowering individuals, enabling them to access high-demand careers and help build a more efficient future.
