Workforce Training and Employment (WTE) Program

The WTE program will introduce participants to the energy efficiency industry and guide them toward employment avenues with trade allies, utilities and other enterprises. The program is designed to support individuals from traditionally underrepresented and marginalized communities.

To qualify, you must have the following:

  • A valid driver's license or active driver permit. If you're never had a license, must have reliable transportation.
  • Willingness to accept job placement in the industry
  • A high school diploma or GED
  • Ability to commit time to the program 
  • Background check and drug screen (Program team will conduct after your application is submitted)

Pathway to Participation

Skilled: Employed in Energy Efficiency industry, looking to grow their skills

September - October 2026

The Nicor Gas Workforce Training and Employment (WTE) program is a paid training and job placement program. Selected participants will learn about building a trade career in improving homes to be more energy efficient, healthy, and affordable.

Through classroom training as well as on-the-job experience, participants will learn about energy efficiency topics and earn their Building Analyst and Healthy Home Evaluator certifications through the Building Performance Institute™ (BPI). Participants are expected to attend training Monday-Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm in Lisle, IL. 

Dates: September 28 - October 23, 2026

Time: 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Location: Lisle, IL

During this four-week, full-time session, participants will receive:

  •   Hands-on classroom and field instruction
  •   Training on topics including energy principles, air leakage, HVAC and more
  •   Opportunities to earn in-demand Building Science industry certifications
  •   Paid training

  •   Childcare stipends
