Nicor Gas, American Red Cross of Illinois support families and communities affected by severe weather

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – June 21, 2021 – Nicor Gas, together with its longtime community partner the American Red Cross of Illinois, is providing essentials and personal protective equipment (PPE) to assist residents in DuPage County who were affected by storms and tornadoes last night.

Nicor Gas employees will join the Red Cross at Thomas Jefferson Junior High School in Woodridge, starting today, to provide items such as safety glasses and gloves, face masks, hand sanitizer, water and snacks.

“Those affected by last night’s severe weather aren’t just customers to us – they’re our neighbors, families and friends,” said Nicor Gas President and CEO John Hudson. “Our first priority is ensuring our customers and communities are safe and receive the service they deserve. Along with the Red Cross and other community organizations, we are helping by providing thousands of PPE essentials to support in any way, so communities can start the recovery process safely.”

Nicor Gas employees will be available today until 8 p.m. at the school. Residents affected by the severe weather can visit the tents located at Thomas Jefferson Junior High School at 7200 Janes Ave. in Woodridge. Nicor Gas also will be onsite June 22 and 23 from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. each day while supplies last, or as the need for supplies continues to exist.

“Our hearts go out to everyone who has been impacted by Sunday’s severe weather. Since late last night our volunteers have been providing care to residents, and we are working with community partners and local officials to continue support to the community,” said Celena Roldan, chief executive officer of the American Red Cross of Illinois. “The Red Cross will be opening an overnight shelter for individuals displaced and who are in need of a safe place to stay. At the shelter Red Cross volunteers will provide meals, snacks, water and disaster support services including health services. Any impacted resident in need of assistance may call the American Red Cross 24/7 disaster hotline at 1-877-597-0747.”
