NAPERVILLE, IL. – March 23, 2023 – Nicor Gas Vice President of Operations Tremese Davis was recently named a “Women of Power” honoree by the Quad County Urban League (QCUL) at their Women’s Empowerment Summit. Davis was recognized for her accomplishments and leadership in forging new roles and inspiration for women, girls and future generations.
“It is an honor to be recognized for this prestigious award by the Quad County Urban League,” she said. “I am grateful for the strong and intelligent women I have been mentored by throughout my career and the young women I am able to help through their journey who have led me to where I am today.”
Davis was named the vice president of Operations at Nicor Gas in 2021, where she is responsible for leading the safety, compliance, emergency response, workforce management, financial performance and other operational aspects to ensure the clean, safe, reliable and affordable delivery of natural gas service to 2.3 million customers throughout more than 650 communities in Northern Illinois.
“We are proud to recognize women that are trailblazers for our communities, including Tremese Davis,” said Theodia Gillespie, president & CEO of Quad County Urban League. “As a leader in the natural gas industry, Tremese goes above and beyond to mentor and provide opportunities for the next generation in the utility space - especially women of color.”
Prior to joining Nicor Gas, Davis worked for Southern Company Gas – the parent company of Nicor Gas – in various operation and supplier diversity roles. She is a 2015 graduate of Leadership DeKalb (Georgia) and a 2016 graduate of Leadership Rockdale (Georgia). She holds a bachelor’s degree in human resources from Georgia Southern University and a Master of Business Administration from Mercer University. She also serves on the board for Quad County Urban League (Illinois).
In addition to board service, Nicor Gas partners with the QCUL to host a six-week job-readiness Career Academy to prepare participants for entry-level work in the utility industry.
The Quad County Urban League was founded in 1975 by a diverse group of local leaders responding to the absence of community-based organization to address the needs for academic achievement, job placement and training, equal access to employment, housing and cultural enrichment for low-income and displaced citizens. The ongoing mission of QCUL is to ensure opportunities for disadvantaged persons and people of color including African Americans, women and disabled persons.
