Nicor Gas warms homes, warmer hearts with new coat donations

Together with Operation Warm, more than 1,700 coats will be delivered to children in need

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Dec. 21, 2021 – As winter weather approaches, it’s an even colder truth for many children and families that do not have a warm winter coat. Together with nonprofit partner Operation Warm, Nicor Gas will help provide more than 1,700 new winter coats to students at qualifying schools.

“As we enter another holiday season there are many in our communities who are still reeling from the pandemic,” said John O. Hudson III, president and CEO of Nicor Gas. “During this winter season, we are proud to continue to provide warm homes and warmer hearts through our partnership with Operation Warm.”

Operation Warm is a national nonprofit that has served over 4 million children in well over 1,900 communities in its 23 years of service. Their mission is to provide warmth, confidence, and hope through basic need programs that connect underserved children to community resources needed for them to thrive. The gift of a coat or shoes is used as a bridge for families in need to access everything else needed, from flu shots to books.

As part of its Warm Homes, Warmer Hearts campaign, Nicor Gas is donating one brand-new winter coat to a child in need for every energy-saving kit customers ordered in October from the Energy Efficiency Program. With kit orders and donations from Nicor Gas, together with Operation Warm, more than 1,700 new coats will be provided to students at qualifying Title 1 schools this winter.

To deliver the first 250 of its committed coats, volunteers and leadership from Nicor Gas joined Sauk Village Mayor Derrick Burgess and community members to deliver coats in advance of the holidays to students at Strassburg Elementary School in Sauk Village on Tuesday, Dec. 21.

“These coats could not have come at a better time for our students” said Dr. Jennifer Camilleri, principal at Strassburg Elementary. “We are grateful to Nicor Gas and Operation Warm. These coats provide hope for our students, their families and our community during an otherwise cold holiday season.”

Additional coat distribution events are planned for January in Hopkins Park and Harvey. To learn more about Operation Warm and Nicor Gas’ Warm Homes, Warmer Hearts commitment, visit nicorgas.com/warmhearts.
